I have skinny ankles. Today. I probably won't tomorrow. But I'm happy to see them even if briefly!
I am still on the same dose of keto but no longer need to take any hydrocortisone at all during the day. I'm staying awake most afternoons/evenings after work, too, which is a huge improvment over the first weeks when I started taking it.
The best part of it all is I am sleeping well most nights. However, I still have times when sleep is elusive, but not as often or as badly. I'm sure this is due to the cyclic nature of my Cushing's Disease.
I no longer have nausea, but my appetite is minimal. I do get the hungriest, still, around 9 at night! Sometimes I'm starved then. But I'm eating some breakfast--usually grapefruit because oddly enough, it's what I want. Lunch is typically a salad or some soup although that can vary if I have leftovers and take them with me. I'm not nauseated anymore at those times.
I still don't have a lot of energy. Some days are just plain ol' hard. Other days are fairly easy. My body has a mind of it's own. I'm never sure what I'm going to get. I still freeze when others don't. My joints and muscles tell me I'm not masking their problems any longer with the high cortisol. Ouch.
The best part is I'm actually losing a small amount of weight. My clothes are definitely a lot looser. Even on my high edema days, they are looser.
Speaking of edema, I wish I knew how to control it. I know that it's worse when I cycle high. That's why having skinny ankles is such a big deal!! I haven't seen my ankles for months until they made a surprise appearance yesterday! They have been hidden by flesh-colored water balloons that I can't pop and taking a diuretic actually makes them worse.
So, here's to skinny ankles, even just for a day.....
I had to look in the mirror to see if my ankles made an appearance yet! 28 and never had skinny ankles.
ReplyDeleteYay for skinny ankles! Glad, also, to hear that keto is working out for you. Are you considering a second pit surgery or BLA or are you hoping to continue keto long term?
