Cushing's Awareness: Cushing's Awareness Day

Today is Cushing's Awareness Day.  Dr. Harvey Cushing was instrumental in the discovery and diagnosis of the disease.  According to the NADF,  "Dr. Harvey Cushing first described a woman with signs and symptoms of this disease in 1912, and in 1932 he was able to link the adrenal overproduction of cortisol to an abnormality in the pituitary."

Dr. Cushing was given the title of the father of modern neurological surgery.  He developed many of the tools and techniques of surgical practice which are still in use today.
